From its earliest days when big men ruled the paint in a fast-paced style that did not have a three-point line, NBA basketball transformed into a more structured defensive style of play in the ‘70s. Then, during the ‘80s and ‘90s, the game became more physical as teams relied more on a grind-it-out style that involved a lot of one-on-one, man-to-man defense.
